European airlines are committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050. A4E works with policymakers to build a regulatory framework that makes this transition commercially viable while ensuring European airlines remain competitive on the global stage.

SAF is central to the decarbonisation of aviation, but current prices remain a major barrier. A4E advocates for policies that bring SAF costs down: increased SAF allowances, a book-and-claim system to support market development, and a border adjustment mechanism (SAF-BAM) to prevent carbon leakage to non-EU hubs. Regulatory ambition must be matched by real market conditions.
